Conference Theme

AI, Immersive Audio & Cultural Computing

This year’s conference theme looks to the future of electroacoustic music, with particular focus on the next generation of tools, instruments, and pedagogy. These areas will fundamentally reshape how we create, teach, think, and write about electroacoustic music. SEAMUS members are invited to present creative works and research activities that engage, connect, or resonate with the conference theme, the opening symposium on AI, as well as take advantage of the unique performance resources available at LSU.

Guidelines

Submission Categories

Members may submit one proposal from each of two categories: Creative Works and Research Presentations.

Creative Works

The conference is soliciting creative works for fixed media, music for instruments and electronics, music for new interfaces for musical expression, laptop/mobile orchestra, wavefield synthesis, extended reality, or installations. Selected works may be diffused in stereo, quadraphonic, 8-channel, Dolby ATMOS (7.1.4), up to 32-channel, or Ambisonic decoding. Works may include single-channel video (up to 4k resolution).

Performer members and performing ensembles are welcome to propose the performance of a specific work by a composer other than themselves. These submissions will be considered alongside composer-submitted works and are no longer limited to a single Performer-Curated Concert. To be considered, the member or ensemble should submit a live recording of themselves performing the submitted work, along with the other required submission elements (i.e., score, program notes, composer bio).

Installations must involve a significant sound component or engage with sound or music topically in some way. Installations can be either physical requiring in-person setup, or fully online interactive multimedia experiences.

Concert works may be of any length. However, preference will be given to works less than 12 minutes long.

Research Presentations

The conference is soliciting papers, panel sessions, demonstrations, and workshops in fields relevant to electroacoustic music, especially those that embrace the conference theme. Topic areas include:

  • Artificial Intelligence & Machine Learning
  • New Interfaces for Musical Expression
  • Immersive Audio Technologies (3D audio, extended reality)
  • Electroacoustic Music Pedagogy
  • Musical Robotics
  • Music over Networks
  • Cultural Computing
  • History of Electroacoustic Music
  • Computational Musicology
  • Sustainability and Digital Preservation
  • Electroacoustic Music & Health

Papers should be no more that 6 pages in length. Accepted papers will be published in an online conference proceeding.

Panel sessions may be between 60-90 minutes in length with no more than three presenters plus one moderator. Demonstrations and workshops may be between 30-120 minutes in length.

Members are encouraged to consider the unique venues and local performers available to them at the conference.

    • Meyer Constellation sound system
    • up to 4k video projection
    • stereo, quad, 8-channel, Ambisonic diffusion

Note: While conference organizers will work to connect local performers with composers upon request, composers are ultimately responsible for providing performers for their works.

Symposium on AI and Electroacoustic Music

Day 1 of the SEAMUS 2027 National Conference will be focused on artificial intelligence and its impact on the creation, study, pedagogy and documentation of electroacoustic music. Given the impact AI is already having on our field, we look forward to an engaging conversation among researchers, creative artists, and thought leaders.

Conference Policies

Attendance

Members whose works have been selected for performance or presentation MUST register for and attend the conference. Because the key purpose of the National Conference is to share works, foster communication, and sustain a nationwide electroacoustic community, your attendance is critical to the conference’s success and value.

PLEASE NOTE: The submitting party is responsible for applicable conference registration fees. If a member composer submits a work, the performer or ensemble presenting that work is not required to register. If a member performer or ensemble submits a work, the submitting performer or ensemble is required to register, while the composer is not required to register.

Adjudication

Adjudication is conducted through a double-blind peer review and is designed to ensure anonymity and a lack of bias toward any particular composer, style, or piece. However, each conference host will consider technical and logistical feasibility as they program creative works based on their own local resources.

Non-discrimination

SEAMUS is committed to being an inclusive organization providing equal opportunities to all its members. Any person with concerns, questions, or suggestions related to these issues is encouraged to contact the SEAMUS president at president@seamusonline.org.

Submission Portal

Where to Submit

The conference submission portal will be open from August 15 – September 27, 2026, closing at 11:59 PM AoE (Anywhere on Earth).

This year, SEAMUS will be using the Microsoft CMT conference management system for its peer-review process. If members do not already have login credentials with this system, they will need to create a new user ID.
